Nummer acht was filmed in the north of Finland. As he does in most of his works, Guido Van der Werve plays a typical romantic hero: a solitary figure who tempts fate by abandoning himself to the whims of nature. In Number Eight a composed Van der Werve makes his way through an icy landscape, seemingly untouched by the fact that he is followed by a gigantic ship, while the ice is cracking under his feet. His performance is certainly not without danger: only a few dozen metres separate the enormous icebreaker from the artist.
