On the table bread and wine, fish and oysters; on the left straws to be used as spills and on the right a pipe. In the background a tinderbox, a box of flints and material to burn. The point of view is high, and the viewer seems to look down on the table. This intimate picture is a rare example of Floris van Schooten’s still lifes from the 1620s, and counts among the artist’s best works.
