The Portrait of Schrevelius by Frans Hals
For the first time since 80 years, the museum was once again able to add a painting by Frans Hals to the collection. It is a portrait made on copper of the Haarlem scholar Theodorus Schrevelius (1572-1649), an early piece from the career of Frans Hals. In an informative presentation, the sale was explained, based on other work by Hals, prints on the painting, and books written by Schrevelius. The presentation in the foyer also highlighted the arguments that led to the ascription of the (unsigned) panel to Frans Hals.
