Next to Old Masters
This autumn the Frans Hals Museum will combine paintings by Glenn Brown with works from its permanent collection: still lifes by Van Nieulandt and Claesz, a portrait by Hals and paintings by Goltzius, De Grebber, Mandijn and Van Haarlem. The series Conversation Piece will pair modern and contemporary works of art with paintings from the Frans Hals Museum. This will offer the viewer a fresh outlook on the collection of paintings from the 16th and 17th century. Through this varied selection the museum wants to encourage viewers to reflect on notions of craftsmanship, style, signature and singularity – themes that may have changed their meaning throughout the ages, but that are still very much alive when it comes to our interpretation of art.
