Douwe Jan Bakker – Maria Barnas
In the Collection Cabinet new work by poet/artist Maria Barnas entered into a dialogue with the conceptual work of Jan Douwe Bakker from the 1970s, from the museum’s permanent collection. The artists meet in their contrarian, playful way of working. For both Bakker and Barnas language plays a crucial role in the development of objects. Does language consist of images? What is the shape of a sound? Can you pronounce a shape? Bakker and Barnas make an effort to communicate the unspeakable and both developed titillating objects for an alternative communication.
