The Militia Pieces of Frans Hals
The Frans Hals Museum’s five militia pieces by Frans Hals feature 68 portraits of 61 different 17th-century Haarlemmers. The militia pieces form an extensive portrait gallery of prominent men from the years 1616 to 1639, the most important period in the history of Haarlem in the Golden Age. In the foyer presentation, the men were examined and their background as residents of Haarlem was highlighted.
