The Frans Hals Museum is an institute for visual culture. It collects, manages, displays and examines works of art as signs of the time from which they originated. The museum also regularly reports on this in scientific publications, articles, catalogues and magazines.
The museum is also a knowledge centre; it carries out plenty of art-related research and, in particular, has become a centre of expertise on Frans Hals. The museum wants to be a ‘hub’ that boosts and stimulates research into Hals’ oeuvre. At the same time, together with its partners, the museum thinks about ways to combine art from various periods, contexts and movements.
