We think it is important that as many children from the Haarlem region as possible become acquainted with our museum and with art. That’s why we want to lower the threshold for museum visits as much as possible: with a cool new visual language workshop, in which we look at old art through today’s glasses and learn how to make a good image yourself, and even bus transport to bring children to the museum. Isn’t that a party?

This gift was made possible in part by donations from Stichting Gereformeerd or Burgerweeshuis Haarlem, Rabobank Haarlem and Omstreken and the J.C. Ruigrok Foundation.

Workshop ‘Visual language’
Frans Hals painted as if it were a photo, at a time when photography did not yet exist. But nowadays you shoot a hundred or so a day: how many photos do you take before one can go online? When are you satisfied and when do you prefer to press delete immediately? In the “Visual Language” workshop we take students along paintings by the best image makers from 400 years ago, who teach them everything about “visual thinking”. After a short tour, students go to work in our photo studio. The perfect album can be taken home immediately after the workshop! And the series of photographs taken together form a contemporary Haarlem portrait gallery.
