Dirck Franchoisz Hals (Haarlem, 1591 – Haarlem, 1656) was a Dutch Golden Age painter and draughtsman from North-Holland, who painted, in particular, genre paintings. He was the younger sibling of the famous Frans Hals but died ten years earlier than his brother. Dirck Hals lived in Haarlem all his life, where he also worked. He visited Leiden on several occasions, which led to him spending a year there. It is likely that he went into apprenticeship with his older brother Frans Hals.

During his career, he made several paintings in the Merry Company genre, with both indoor and outdoor scenes. These paintings were often not without symbolic references that did or did not criticize the depicted company.
