Joost Conijn (Amsterdam, 1971) is a video artist, filmmaker and author, but is best known for his large, self-built machines. He studied at Amsterdam’s Gerrit Rietveld Academie (1992-1995) and Sandberg Institute (1995-1997), and has lived and worked in the city since 1992. He now also teaches at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie himself.

In 2000, Joost Conijn won the Charlotte Köhler Prize and in 2005, he was awarded the Cobra Art Prize Amstelveen. In 2005, he was also an artist-in-residence in the Czech Republic. Joost Conijn’s work has been shown at, among others, Palais de Tokyo (Paris), De Hallen Haarlem, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (Rotterdam) and Henie Onstad Kunstsenter (Høvikodden, Norway).
